Summary
As Hutch was leaving the apartment he was looking for the gloves that he couldn't find. Hutch asked Rosemary, and rosemary asked Guy, but noone saw it. Hutch left, and Rosemary stayed with Guy. Soon after Hutch called back for Rosemaryand Guy tried making excuses saying that she couldn't talk because she was too much in pain, but Hutch insisted anyway. Before Hutch left the house he told Rosemary that the Tannis root inside her charm sounded and looked wierd and that he would do some research on it. Now, he has some news and that's why he called. Hutch told Rosemary to meet him infront of his building at 1:00 because he had to tell her something. Guy took the phone, brought it to the room, and went out to satisfy his ice cream craving. Right after guy left the apartment Rosemary heard the Vastevets door bell ring and thought that Guy went over to ask them if they wanted anything. And with that Rosemary felt that sharp pain that she has been feeling for weeks now. That next morning Rosemary called Minnie and told her not to bring her drink because she was going out to meet a friend, Hutch. Because she got to the building early, Rosemary decided to wait, and she waited and waited, and hutch was nowhere to be seen. Worried, Rosemary entered the building and rang Hutch's apartment. Grace, Hutch's friend, picked up the phone and told Rosemary that he was taken to the hospital in a deep coma. Caught off guard, Rosemary started walking and soon came across Minnie. She took her home and gave her the drink. The sour drink only made the pain even worse. Rosemary had started some wierd habits and food preference. She was eating raw fish. The pain was getting so intense that the pain became her whole world and she learned to live with it. Rosemary became suspicious of the daily drinks she was getting and no longer kept drinking it. Rosemary had found herself so out of the loop, so she decided to throw a part for her friends that she hadn't seen in awhile. At the party she was telling her friends all about the pain and they told her that her pregnancy was un-normal and that she had to see another doctor. This got Guy all worked and told her that she had no right to question Sapirstein intentions. Then just like magic the pain was all gone and the baby started moving. The miracle of life turns into a mystery. After that everything was going smoothly. Rosemary started drinking the drink again, but this time the drink came with a piece of cake. Guy was getting his big break. Then Rosemary was brought brought back to reality when she learned that Hutch had died on his hospital bed. When she told Guy, he went blank, almost as if life was stucked out of him. Rosemary was surprised by the way Guy reacted, it was un-expected. When Rosemary went to the memorial service, Grace, Hutch's friend, gave Rosemary a book the he had left for her. The book was about witchcraft, the one he was reading the night he got into the coma. When she got home she opened the package, and the title of the book was All Of Them Witches by J.R Hanslet. She could tell by the markings in the book that Hutch had already began studying it. Hutch had left a message for Rosemary saying that the name was a anagram, but he didn't say which name so Rosemary started playing with the scrabble set and began looking at names. She kept redoing every name untill she came across Steven Mercato, the son of Adrian Mercato, someone who practiced witch craft, and the name quickly turned to Roman Castevet. Rosemary told Guy, and she started to worry. Guy told her that Roman doesn't practice witch craft and that their friendly, nice, people. But Rosemary becomes paranoid and starts questioning the motives of the Castevets. Rosemary told Minnie what she had found and Minnie asked her not to tell Roman about it. Soon after Minnie told Rosemary that she and Roman were taking a trip around the world because it was Romans lasts days. Rosemary found herself feeling sad and asked them to come back soon. Days go by, and the baby the almost here. But before that Rosemary meets a guy named Dominick, the guy who "supposebly" gave Guy a pair of tickets to The Fantasticks the day before Donald Baumgart, the guy that Guy was going up against for a part, became blind. Rosemary said thanks, but Dominick didn't seem to remember giving Guy anything. She came to a conclusion that Guy wanted her out of the apartment for some reason and she was going to find out why. She began looking back one everything that happened and it all became to suspicious. The she came to the conclusion that somebody had put a spell on Donald to make him blind and put Hutch into a coma. It all came down to one thing, that Roman and Minnie were witches, the "tannis root" was Devils Fungus, that guy stole Hutch's gloves and gave it to roman when he "went out for ice cream", thats why she heard the doorbell. Hutch was becoming a little too suspicious so they put him into a coma. Then she thought about the baby, was he/she going to be a pay back to the other's for the favor they did for Guy? Guy never wanted a baby untill now. She knew what they were planning to do with it and she wasn't going to let it happen. But, then, she thought about Donald, what did Guy take of his? It didn't make any sense so she decided to disregard the whole witch idea. That is until she went to see him. He told her that him and Guy exchanged ties because it would be fun, and this all happened the day before he became blind. Rosemary got scared and realized what she thought was all true, so she packed her baby bag and when to see Dr. Sapirstein. When she got there the receptionist told her that he was with a patient and that she'd have to wait. Then the receptionist told her that she liked her perfume, and that it was better than what she usually wore. Rosemary told her that it was a good luck charm that had something in it. Thats when the receptionist told her that Dr. Sapirstein has one just like that, and Rosemary got scared so she went outside. Rosemary knew that he was one of the witches. She ran to the nearest phone booth and called Dr. Hill, he told her that she can come see her. As Rosemary was telling him about the whole thing, Dr. Hill just couldn't bring himself to believe her so he made her lie down and called Guy and Dr. Sapirstein and they came to pick her up. As they got to the apartment Rosemary made it seem that she dropped her purse and she ran to the elevator to get upstairs first. She locked the door but they eventually got in. CRAMPS. The baby was coming, right there, right now, right when she was trying to get away from them. They held her down and she couldn't believe that she was having her baby at home in at hands of witches, of Satans servants. They gave her a shot. She looked at them. Then it was complete DARKNESS.Qoute
"...pain, even constant pain, was no excuse for staying indoors, as much as she had. She would fight it from now on, fight it with air and sunlight and activity, not succumb to it in Bramford gloom under the well-meant pamperings of Minnie and Guy and Roman. Pain, begone! she thought; I will have no more of thee! The pain stayed, immune to Positive Thinking" (Levin 136).Reaction
When Rosemary said the quote above she was thinking that maybe if she thought positive thoughs that her pain would be gone. She couldn't believe that she left pain stop her from living her life. I think that it's something we can all think about. Can we really afford to waste out time hanging around the house? Sometimes we use the lamest excuses not to go outside. What Rosemary had in mind was that if she kept thinking positive she'll get results, this is something we can all start doing. Thinking positive doesn't cost us nothing, but somehow we keep thinking negative because those negative thoughts seems more realistic than positive ones. Even though if nothing changes we will have a better attitude towards things and we will look at things from a brighter side, like Rosemary was starting to do.
